I will not make anymore non-fun art

“I am an artist, I want to make fun art,” is a statement very much inspired by the artist John Baldassari, who famously stated, “I will not make anymore boring art.” A statement he cemented by setting on fire his previous paintings marking the end of his boring phase. What non-boring art did he make? He wrote text on canvases and put stickers on photographs. As a conceptual artist, his work was more about the ideas presented than the execution. A refusal to be boring is an oversimplification of his work. His art was meant to challenge the conventions of the art world at the time. Getting other artists to think about their delivery styles further.

So, what do I mean by wanting to make fun art? It is work that I enjoy. While I can get very conceptual, and put a lot of political and emotional meaning to a project. I don’t want to limit myself to high art. I want to produce kitsch work. I love dumb projects that only serve to make me smile.

My goal with art

“Sharing is caring,” is a very basic moral lesson taught in children’s media. So basic it’s often seen as a joke of a message. But, I’d argue it’s still an important lesson to teach. Oftentimes, people aren't taught moral lessons from their home life. Often, they get taught by the media they consume. I know I have been shaped by the stories I’ve watched because I’ve had stories move me in a way I know no other person has done.

In my art, I want to create a positive force on life. Hopefully with more nuisance than a sharing lesson. I believe art to be an important asset for humanity. It is experience which can be shared and used to create bonds between us.

What is Birds Nest?

In my social media I go by the name Birds Nest, the origin of the name is a little long. I knew I needed an online presence, and for branding purposes I knew my very common name Alejandro was not gonna cut it. Also, I figured if the day came where I could create my own art company, I’d want a name with a fresh start. A professional brand, separate from my social media where I knew I’d be more jovial. The professional company dream of mine, had the word Ave in its title. The A V covers my initials, and when paired with the E makes it the scientific name for a bird. The imagery of a bird soaring high, and leaving its nest is the icon I want to symbolize my growth. It’s a very optimistic and hopeful image. But it will take some time to build up to. So currently, I’m in the Birds Nest.
